Hillsong United Concert

Yesterday I had the chance to go to Nashville to see Hillsong United.  It was a fun trip.  Because Jennifer was on call for her job, she was unable to go.  I caught a ride with Pastor Sean, Danny and Joey.  We left early and met up with the Martin family for an early dinner at the Hard Rock Cafe.  After dinner we walked around downtown Nashville for a little bit before heading over to the Curb Center at Belmont University for the show.  When we arrived, the line was already rather lengthy and the doors were not even opened yet.  After the doors opened, the line started moving slowly and splitting into two sections.  Since I got my ticket later and by-myself, I just got a General Admission ticket.  One line was for people with reserved seating and the other was for GA.  With a GA ticket, I was able to go down to the floor where it was just standing room only.  I made my way to the stage and ended up only a few feet from the stage on the right side.  I was roughly six feet from Jadwin "Jad" Gillies. The actual show was soooo amazing.  If you were at the show and did not feel God move, you must have been dead.  I am sort of new to Hillsong United, but they have some amazing songs.  They did quite a few songs before having a break where a speaker gave a message that was also amazing.  He used Matthew 6 in part of his message and which is one of my favorite passages from the Bible.  I am going to include it here.

Matthew 6: 25-34 -

"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?  "And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

It happens to be one of my favorite passages from the Bible, but one I find myself not following.  (Hint:  I am a huge worrier) Anyways, the speaker really spoke to me.  During the decision time, I re-dedicated myself to God.  I was with people all around me that I had never met in my life, including one guy from Knoxville.  It was just awesome.  After the message, the band came back and did some more music.  After they were done.  The crowd went crazy.  Hillsong United came back out for an encore and started it with "Your Name High" from their latest album.  The dancing and jumping and worshiping that was going on, was off the charts.  A security guard was handing out bottles of water to those around me (including me :-) ).  If you have not gotten a copy of their latest album, do yourself a favor, GET IT!  It is called [a_CROSS//the_EARTH] :: Tear Down the Walls, and came out last Tuesday.  The whole show was about two hours and forty minutes.

I got home a little after 3:00 AM this morning and caught a few hours asleep.  At 7:30 AM I was at church because I ran video today.  Needless to say I was tired but it was so great.  Church was realy special today and then I came home and took a nap.  God is doing some amazing things at The Springs.  If you find yourself without a church home, come check us out.  I took a few pictures that I will post below.  (Click for a bigger image)

To Nashville, TN to see the Dove Awards

What a great trip I just got home from.  This could be a rather lengthy post, I apologize in advance.  On Thursday morning, Jennifer and I left to go to Nashville, TN.  We were very lucky to be able to get Thursday and Friday off from work.  We made it to Nashville to the hotel without any problems.  After catching our breath, some family of mine came to take us out to lunch.  It was great!  I had not seen Kevin and Christy my cousins in many many moons.  They live in Nashville where Kevin is a doctor.  We got to visit for just a little while.  After returning to the hotel, we got ready for the Dove Awards!

The Dove Awards were pretty amazing.  What you might not know is that they give out a lot more awards then what is shown on the television part.  The awards ceremony started a little bit after 4:30 and didn't end until 10:30.  While we were waiting for the doors to open, we saw Daniel Carson.  Any guesses on who he is?  He plays guitar and does backup vocals in Chris Tomlin's band.  We also ran into Mama and Aunt Gomer.  During the pre-televised part of the Dove's, they gave out most of the awards.  They had three performances as well.  Meredith Andrews performed, "You're Not Alone" and they had a hip-hop artist play, and Downhere also performed, "Here I Am."  I was happy to see that Third Day took the award for best pop/contemporary album for "Revelations" and DecembeRadio won best rock album for "Satisfied."  Steven Curtis Chapman took the songwriting award.  When they announced that SCC had won the song writing Dove, he got a standing ovation.  This portion of the awards also saw the special event album award going to Passion for "God Of This City."  Around 6:30 or so, the pre-televised show was finished.  At 7:00, the televised portion of the Dove's cranked up.  It was being shown around the country, live, on the Gospel Music Television Channel.  This portion was filled with lots of performances and a few of the bigger awards.  I was a little dissapointed to see that Third Day, Skillet, or David Crowder Band did not take home the Group Award.  All three bands have had a great year.  It's not that I don't like Casting Crowns, but they had not even released a new cd this past year.  I thought that Natalie Grant was a great choice for female vocalist and that Brandon Heath was a good choice for male vocalist.  The performances were really good during this part.  Mary Mary kicked off the show with one of their newer singles.  Brandon Heath performed "Give me Your Eyes" complete with a set of dancers behind him.  Chris Tomlin performed "I Will Rise" with a string section.  Natalie Grant performed a song with Group 1 Crew.  They also had all the artists up for "New Artist Of The Year" do an abbreviated performance (minus Fee and Addison Road).  This included:  Remedy Drive, Chris Sligh, Francesca Battistelli, Jonathan Nelson and Tenth Avenue North.  Tenth Avenue North took home the award.  A Dottie Rambo Tribute also took place led by Sandi Patty and others.  The most moving moment of the evening though happened towards the end.  The last performance of the evening (not counting the closing) was done by Steven Curtis Chapman.  He performed his song, "Cinderella."  Before starting the song he simply said, "For Maria Sue"  I'm sure by now everyone knows about the horrible tragedy that he and his famly had gone through.  The last award of the night to be given was "Artist Of The Year."  Although I was pulling for Third Day to win, I was not at all disappointed with it going to Steven Curtis Chapman.  When he was named as the winner, he got a thundering applause and standing ovation.  I doubt that there was a dry eye in the crowd.  He took his wife with him to accept the award.  One word to describe that moment was, "wow!" That pretty much wraps up the Dove Awards.  It was my first ever trip to see the awards, and hopefully it will not be my last.

We went to downtown Nashville on Friday and had lunch at Hard Rock.  We then came on back home.  All in all the highlight of the trip was seeing the SCC performance.  He must be so amazingly strong to be able to do what he did.

April Update

Hello Friends.  It has been awhile since you have last heard from me.  Things have been going well.  As you might have noticed from the pictures, I did become an uncle.  James Moody Mitchell was born back on March 6th, just nine days before my birthday and came in at eight pounds and thirteen ounces.  I got to see him again two weeks later and he is already growing.

In early February, Jennifer and I started going to a new church.  It has been such a blessing.  There were no hard feelings whatsoever to our old church, but we felt it was time to open a new chapter in our lives.  We have started going to The Springs.  I have a lot of history with Rock Spring UMC, and they were such a blessing to me when I first moved to northwest Georgia.  I really enjoyed being the Youth Director for two years for them.  The Pastor at the Springs happens to be the son of our old Sunday School teachers from Rock Spring UMC.  The Springs was a plant church that is only a few years old, but is already growing fast.  Our best friends are activiely involved with the church as well.  Danny serves as the Youth Minister and Cassie is heading the Children's Ministry program.

Take Care, and I hope to post again soon.
